Cruisin Classics is proud and honored to present to you this truly one-of-a-kind 1959 Cadillac series 62 2-door hartop! This customized resto-mod Cadillac is the result of a meticulous 2-year restoration (2017-2018) done by Dark Horse Customs in Bozeman Montana – and it's obvious that these folks are serious professionals who excel at what they do. Back in 2016 this car was a nearly completed, true-to-original restoration dressed in metallic red with a 390 V8, but that was before nearly $300K was spent to transform it into the incredible ride that sits before us today. This build started with removing the body of the car from its old chassis and mounting it on a rotisserie, and then the serious work began. Over the next two years this Cadillac was treated to the best of the best in all categories including suspension, frame, brakes, exhaust, engine, transmission, body-work, paint, chrome, interior, and a whole host of custom extras. The finished product is a real work of automotive art!
The show-quality dark blue metallic paint looks spectacular on the laser-straight long body – it's so deep it looks like you could dive into it! Body gaps and panel fitment are excellent and consistent. The chrome on the car is hypnotizing, you just can't look away from it. The chrome alone accounts for $55K of the build! The distinctly recognizable front end features quad headlights (upgraded to LED) and quad turn signals flanking a two-tiered chrome grille with a jewel-like pattern that shines like diamonds in the light. Beneath the grille is an enormous chrome bumper with license plate surround. The forward end of the hood wears a bright Cadillac crest and signature “V” while the tops of the fenders are graced with chrome spears that stretch from just above the headlights back to the chrome eggcrate wiper valence. Bright wiper blades accent the large wrap-aound windshield that's framed in more gleaming chrome. The windshield and all of the other glass on the car were replaced during the build and it is flawless and crystal-clear. The brightwork continues on the sides of the car with chrome front wheel lip molding, drip rail molding, window surrounds, door handles, and dual side mirrors. The rear wheels are partially obscured by fender skirts in excellent condition. These Series 62 Cadillacs came with a long piece of chrome body side molding that ran from the front wheel openings to the rear bumper, but the design choice during this build was to eliminate this molding in favor of letting the perfectly straight, long blue sides of the body speak for themselves. The wheel and tire choice is a fantastic complement to the look of this elegant car - polished aluminum Colorado Customs wheels (18X8 front, 18X10 rear) with engraved Cadillac logos on the centercaps wrapped in Nitto white-wall tires. As your eye moves toward the rear of the car you can't help but focus on the gigantic iconic tail fins and bullet taillights all wrapped in copious amounts of shining chrome. The chrome rear bumper is gigantic and features 9” round taillights at the corners with a beauty panel in between that matches the front grille. The decklid wears a bright Cadillac crest and “V”, just like the hood. From any angle you look at this car it is simply captivating! When the build got to the point of re-mounting the body to the chassis, a brand new Roadster Shop Fast Track Stage III chassis outfitted with Wilwood disc brakes & new lines and a new 9” rear axle ($30K) was brought in to replace the original. Needless to say, when you take a look beneath the car you'll find a jaw-droppingly impressive undercarriage. Adding to the upgrades on the bottom-side is a coating of Lizard Skin ceramic insulation and sound control. While you're underneath, you'll surely also notice the new complete Xforce Varex exhaust system with cut-outs as well as the Ridetech Ride Pro air suspension system – two top-notch upgrades!
Lift the hood to be greeted by a show-quality engine bay with custom high-end sheet metal work and paint that's as nice as the exterior. Long gone is the original 390ci V8, at the center now is a crate 6.2 liter LS3 that was purchased new for this build in 2017 at a cost of $7K. This bullet-proof LS motor is topped off with aluminum valve covers and a Jim Inglese 8-stack fuel injection system with body-color blue accents on the velocity stacks ($5,650 just for the EFI system!). Ahead of the engine is a blue-painted water pump and an aluminum front-runner system with a Vintage Air compressor, alternator, and power steering pump. Behind the grille is a custom radiator with dual electric fans and aluminum overflow ($2,750 in 2017) that keeps this Cadillac running as cool as it looks. The LS3 engine is appropriately mated to a 4L80E automatic overdrive transmission (rated to 850 hp) that shifts smooth as silk. Stopping power comes courtesy of a chrome CPP hydroboost brake system that utilizes the aforementioned Wilwood calipers along with drilled and slotted rotors on all four corners. Exhaust flows through polished headers and the Xforce Varex system before exiting just before the rear bumper with a fantastic sound.
When you open the drivers door of this Cadillac, courtesy lights under the dash and under the seat come on to illuminate an unbelievably cool custom interior. The manually adjustable bench seat is covered in high-quality blue leather with blue piping, white stitching, and white leather insets stitched in a grid pattern. It is just as comfortable as it is gorgeous! The interior leather and carpet work in this car cost $27K back in 2018, and the looks sure justify the hefty price tag. The back bench seat follows the same pattern as the front and features an embossed Cadillac “V” logo at the center of the top. Door panels follow suit with the blue and white leather theme and offer an interior control for the drivers side mirror. Like-new dark blue-grey square-weave carpet and matching floormats cover the floor and accent the bottom of the door panels. Stitched white leather covers the A-pillars and the tight white headliner is made of what we believe to be white leather as well. The dash in this Cadillac is totally customized. The top of the dash is padded blue leather with chrome defrost vents and white stitching above the gauge cluster area. The lower section of dash is sheet-metal painted in the same blue as the exterior. The chrome framed elliptical gauge cluster is the VHX-1017 by Dakota Digital, and it combines gauges for temp, fuel, battery, and oil pressure with a tachometer and speedometer. It also has a digital section that offers additional functions controlled by a small button under the dash to the drivers left. Mileage on the odometer is 1,332, which we believe to be the mileage since the build took place. To the left of the gauge cluster is a row of switches for the six power windows (yes, the vent windows are power too!) and to the right are knobs for the wipers and the lights. To the right of the knobs in the center of the dash are controls for the Vintage Air unit that cranks out ice-cold A/C and hot heat with a strong fan that blows through 4 multi-directional vents positioned across the lower section of dash. To the far right, ahead of the passenger, is another set of 2 switches for the power windows on that side of the car. The driver is treated to one of the nicest steering wheels we've seen in quite some time! This gorgeous Colorado Customs wheel is wrapped in bone-white padded leather with 3 chrome spokes, a working chrome horn ring, and an engraved Cadillac logo on the center hub. The steering wheel is mounted on a blue tilt column with a column shifter. On the front seat you'll find a digital controller for the Ride-Tech system that offers individualized operation as well as presets. Back in the trunk you'll find a full carpet kit that matches the interior and hidden behind the rear panel is the Ride-Tech system with a 5 gallon air pod.
